Alice Walker speaks about her teacher, Muriel Rukeyser, when she was a student at Sarah Lawrence College. She reads passages from Rukeyser's essays in The Life of Poetry and recites her poem "Islands." Alice Walker talks about poetry as an essential part of her identity and her life. Ashfield Film Fest will present the Baby Cecil Awards (named for Cecil B. Demille, who was born in Ashfield on August 12, 1881). Paris Press has submitted "Alice Walker on Muriel Rukeyser," which Myra Paci produced for Paris Press in honor of Muriel Rukeyser's 100th birthday. This short film will be included in Paris Press's work-in-progress, "Spiraling Into The Life of Poetry."

Ashfield Fall Festival is a highlight of life in Western Massachusetts. People travel to Ashfield from all over the East Coast to attend this annual village fair. Paris Press is located on the first floor of Town Hall, between Gray's famous fried dough with maple cream and South Ashfield Library's apple pies and cheddar cheese. All of our books are on display and for sale at special Fall Festival prices, and visitors can meet Jane Lund, the acclaimed artist who created the "Sisters Dresses" collage featured on the cover of Sisters: An Anthology.

The AWP Conference & Bookfair will take place at the Hilton Minneapolis and, as always, Paris Press will participate in the Bookfair and the panels. This year we will have a book signing with AWP-featured-participant Rita Charon, the founder of Narrative Medicine at Columbia University, and the author of the extraordinary Afterword in Virginia Woolf's On Being Ill with Notes from Sick Rooms by Julia Stephen, Woolf's mother.
