Rita Charon is a general internist and literary critic at Columbia University. She is the founder and executive director of the Program in Narrative Medicine, where research and training at the boundaries between narrative and medicine occur. Charon is the author of Narrative Medicine: Honoring the Stories of Illness and co-editor of Stories Matter: The Role of Narrative in Medical Ethics.
