LITERARY INFLUENCES
Natalie Wetzel's sculptures are influenced by the landscape of fairy tales;
Angela Cappetta's photography has been shaped by the poems of William
Carlos Williams; and Allison Nowlin claims the short stories of Raymond
Carver as a major influence.
Painter Karla Wozniak says, “The writer who has influenced me very directly
was the urbanist Jane Jacobs and her book Death and Life of Great
American Cities. She was one of the first authors who helped me realize
why American cities and suburbs have developed the way they have. Urban
and suburban landscapes have been my subject since 1998.”
Painter and installation artist Lucy Kim offered a list of the literature
that has been most influential in her life and work: A Room of One's
Own by Virginia Woolf; The First Man and The Stranger by
Albert Camus; Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar; Franz Kafka's short
stories; Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities; Rings of Saturn
by W.G. Sebald; and Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov.
